Stephen and his two Dutch companions, Emiel and Kimberly, take some time to reflect on their experiences in Pakistan. Emiel shares that while the locals are incredibly friendly, they seem to have a more “flexible” approach to rules. He recounts how the trio had paid for a private cabin on the train, only to find locals casually joining them in their reserved space without hesitation.

As they chat, Stephen asks the couple about their future travel plans. Emiel and Kimberly reveal that their next destination is the Himalayas, though their journey depends on obtaining an Indian visa, as they also hope to visit India and Nepal. When Stephen asks if they’ve had any scary moments during their travels, Kimberly recounts a time in Iran when they were robbed while camping in a rural area. They had pitched their tent and parked their bikes out of sight, but the next morning, they discovered their pet carriers and helmets had been stolen. Despite challenges like food poisoning—four times, no less—they both agree that Georgia has been their favorite country so far, thanks to its stunning scenery and thrilling off-road adventures.
After their conversation, the trio heads out from Rawalpindi toward Hunza. Hours of driving through heavy traffic start to wear on Stephen, as the chaotic roads make navigation a challenge. By the time they reach a small village in search of a guesthouse, night has fallen, and finding accommodations proves harder than expected. After checking four different locations and spending hours navigating narrow roads, they finally secure a place to rest for the night.

The next day, feeling refreshed, they continue their journey north. Upon reaching Khunjerab, they learn that the road ahead is too dangerous for bikes. They’re offered a car ride instead, which takes them to the Khunjerab Pass—the highest border crossing in the world. Standing at this awe-inspiring location, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, Stephen reflects on the challenges and rewards of this incredible journey so far.
